From Tragedy to Technology: How a Dirt Biking Accident Inspired Scan ID 365’s Life-Saving Mission

Daniel White, founder of Scan ID 365, shared the deeply personal story that inspired the product: a tragic dirt biking accident where friends could not provide critical medical info or next-of-kin contacts for an unconscious rider, who sadly passed away.

Realizing this gap, Daniel and his team developed Scan ID 365, a simple, database-driven system that lets anyone securely store essential medical info and emergency contacts behind a unique QR code and “Safety ID.” In an emergency, a bystander or first responder can quickly access this info — even if the injured person’s phone is locked, dead, or lost.

Daniel explained the product’s design: it avoids HIPAA complications by letting users decide what info to share, and includes practical add-ons like durable stickers or metal tags. The service costs about $2.75/month or $25/year, plus a one-time fee for stickers.

Lake County startup’s simple sticker system could save lives when seconds count

A Lake County startup is aiming to keep people safe through a simple yet effective product.

Scan ID 365 is making it easy for people to share their medical and emergency contact information should they ever find themselves in a situation where they can’t, such as if you’re in an accident and become unconscious.

“Scan ID 365 is an emergency preparedness system,” Scan ID President and CEO Daniel White said. “When you can’t talk, you need something to speak for you. So, this is how you get that information to the people who are responding to you when you can’t talk.”

People who use Scan ID 365 are sent a sheet of four stickers that can be placed on a variety of surfaces including helmets, bikes, wallets or cell phone...
